The crowd in Rizal stadium were not only
thrilled, they were entertained as spirited Azkals came from behind to defeat
Korea DPR 3:2 to keep Philippines hope of AFC Asian
cup alive as they progress to the next round of the competition.
The game started with both teams sharing
possession and attacking from end to end. However, it was the away side that had the first
scoring chance but their shot went wide.
As the game progress, both teams created
chances but were not able to convert any until 43rd minutes when Javier
Patiño brilliant move and shot was block by the Korea DPR’s goalkeeper but Misagh
Bahadoran was at hand to slot home the follow up with a good header the first
goal of the night.
As Azkals fans were still celebrating Korea
DPR Kyong Jin equalized in the added time to put the crowd back on their sit
and the half ended 1:1
Second half started and Ri Hyok Chol struck
again for the away side to make it 1:2 as they came into the second half with
lots of energy.
With Azkals knowing there is nothing to be
afraid of going forward, they mounted pressure after pressure as Koreans
started delaying tactics. At about 84 minutes, Manny Ott carved in the come
back to set Rizal Stadium crowd on fire after a series of quick passes that
also involved Patino who was up for a task through out the night and the fresh
spirit of James Younghusband.
The decider that made the Korea DPR to bow
and send the crowd to the 7th heaven came in the last minutes of the
regulation time as Patino again found Iain Ramsay in the box who made no
mistake in finding the back of the net and give Azkals the desired victory as
the game ended 3:2.
This win has no doubt put the Azkals coach on the driving seat for contract extension.
The 22 years 5.8 ft Nigerian Anthony’s strength, game
intelligent and natural aggression made him an asset for Nomads Brave in the
WFL, Philippines until the ban came to the team when they were about to play
against Kaya FC in the second leg. He is aggressive and fearless in his challenge.
He is a combative box to box midfielder who likes to be involve in play at all
times whether in the defense or attack. He possesses and incredible shot from
distance with both left and right foot. His heading power is an asset during
set pieces. His goal scoring ability makes him a stand out performer when
deploy in more advance role.
He was heavily involve in the Nomads Brave 2:1 win of Belarus FC
at home, 4:1 defeat of Superbad FC, 6:1 emphatic win of Ceres Cruis FC, and 2:1
lose to Kaya FC in the first leg.
Though new in the Philippines and yet to experience UFL, his
performance in the WFL with Nomads Brave shows that he is the type of player
who is capable of playing in any level of competition. We see him becoming additional
force with a team in this 2016 UFL season. He is a player who knows how to give
those short and long range passes with accuracy and power to secure the teams
back four or three.
He has had experience under studying and training with two important
Nigeria Super Eagles football players, Mikel Obi of Chelsea FC, London and Onazi

In a night that
Philippines needed nothing more than victory against Uzbekistan in the FIFA world
cup and AFC Asian cup qualifiers, Azkals faltered but the 26 years English
League One club Walsall goalkeeper Neil Etheridge became a hero as he saved his
10-man Azkals from humiliating defeat.
The game started brightly
as both teams came in with attacking intentions, however, it was the home side
that had the first goal scoring chance as they came into a 1v1 situation with
the Philippines number 1 who was brilliant in stopping the ball in the 6th
minutes of play.
The moment which defined
the game came in the 10th minutes of play when OJ Poteria who was instrumental
in Kaya FC defeat of New Radiant of Maldives and Balestier Khalsa of Singapore
in the AFC cup was shown a red card which we believe should have been a yellow
for a tackle on the Uzbekistan player in their box.
With Azkals now left with
10 men, they dropped deep with every player defending. This invited Uzbekistan
to come out in numbers in search for opener but the goalkeeper who was
fantastic and exceptional through out the night was always there to make those
safes that proved why he was invited.
As the struggle to cope
continued for the Philippines Azkals, they managed to get the ball out of the
defense to their attacker that had options but he decided to shoot from a distance
in the 20th minutes but the shot was not strong enough to threaten
the opponent’s goalkeeper.
The game continued with
Neil Etheridge producing another safe when the back line allowed the ball to
bounce and went over them for the home side striker to shoot. Etheridge
produced yet another safe after safes until the half time as ball kept coming in
from the Uzbekistan’s right wing.
Second half started and
the home sides continue the pressure from where they stopped in the half with Philippines
showing no attacking intention. They came close to having an opener with a flick header but Etheridge
was too good to be beaten. Another long-range shot came in the 52 minutes and the
safe hands was equal to the task.
With all the wonders from Philippines Etheridge and Uzbekistan missed chances, that break through came
for the home side as they finally found the back of the net in the 59th
minutes of play and left Azkals with a new mind set and approach.
With 1 goal down, Philippines
came out with some counter attacking game that almost gave a fruitful result.
But we believe they waited too long before putting pressure on the Uzbekistan which 59th minutes goal gave them a deserving 1:0 victory at the end of the full time whistle.
We understood that Azkals
were one man down in a game that wining was the only option. The team should
have taken risk by playing with 3-man defense so that they could still attack
and limit space for Uzbekistan to build their attack.
We congratulate the whole
team for the way they defended but the defending tactics was wrong for a game
of that nature where scoring goals should have been the first priority.
Next game is against
Korea DPR at Rizal Memorial Stadium Philippines.
The 15 years Mercado Colin
Szymon Redondois a midfielder very much of the modern mould that would fit the
Philippines National team age groups camp and football clubs around the world
interested in young talents who could be the next big name in football.
We see Szymon as one of the
most talented young rising midfielders in the Philippines! Quick-footed player
with natural balance and excellent shooting power! Physically, he might look
weak but when the ball is closely on his feet, he can change direction quickly,
and he doesn't get caught. For his age, he is unbelievable! His knowledge of
the game is brilliant, his technical skills are fantastic and his height is
superb. When his physical aspect of the game is fully develop, we believe he
could become Philippines Andres Iniesta in the future.
He is known for his passing, dribbling, vision and movement! His ability to find and exploit space allows
him to dictate the tempo of the game. His work ethics and willingness to play
anywhere on the pitch makes him a player who could make the difference in a
team.
There is no wonder FC Metro
Manila has dominated Mabuhay League with such a player capable of creating
scoring chances and adjusting to different positions in the field.
He is a natural right-footed
player but his left foot is not weak.
Szymon who has played for
Makati FC and currently playing for De La Sale South University and FC Metro Manila
has lots of experience playing in Gothia Cup Sweden, Singa Cup, Singapore, UFL
Youth League, Philippines, Alaska Cup, Philippines, Mabuhay League, Philippines
and various school competitions is ready for a higher level and concentrated
football.
Szymon on the ball
We would bring more about him
as we follow his development and other talented players in the Philippines as
we move around scouting hidden talents.
Kaya FC started the game with
confidence dictating the tempo as expected after their first home win against
New Radiant SC of Maldives.
The home side mounted
pressure after pressure on Balestier Khalsa but only saw their midfield worker
Alfred Osei’s long-range shot in the first 3rd and 4th minutes go over the bar.
The real scoring chance
landed on Jovin Bedic but his shot from the 6y box was deflected wide
for a corner in the 5th minutes of play.
16th minutes Balestier Khalsa no 17 had a chance to make
some dangerous cutting but Kaya defense was too good to stop his threat.
After a short combination play in the 19th minutes, Junior
Munoz found Oj Poteria in the box but he was unable to take control of the ball
as everyone in Rizal Stadium were looking for an opener.
21st minutes Balestier were force to bring in No.13 for the
No. 5 who was struggling right from the warm up.
23rd minutes Miguel Tanton saw his yellow card as
he reacted after the Balestier no. 23 brought him.
26th minutes, the away sides tried to push forward and were
rewarded with a corner.
27th minutes Dominic del Rosario made his way with ball from
the left wing and was able to find Jovin Bedic who missed the shot from a close
range.
Kenshiro Daniels immediately had his own chance in the box but
he was too slow to pull the trigger as his shot blocked went to Osei whose
effort was also block from the edge of the box as Kaya kept searching for a goal.
As the away side had no chance of getting close to kaya
goal, they tried a long rage shot, which was too weak to threaten the Kaya no.
1 in the 32nd minutes.
Kaya that should have been 3 goals up by now saw another
right-footed long rage afford by Alfred Osei went wide in the 34th
minutes.
Few minutes later, Oj peteria saw his shot safe by the away
goalkeeper who was busy through out the evening.
Miscommunication between the Kaya defense almost cause a
problem for the team but were lucky to the ball go out for a corner for the
away team in the 36th minutes.
OJ Poteria had another chance but his effort was too weak to
beat the goalkeeper who was on high alert as the pressure kept mounting on
them.
After the interval, Kaya were again on top as Anton Ugarte
lashes home at the 47th minutes with a right foot at the bottom left
corner of the net after a brilliant cut in from the left wing to give Kaya a
1:0 lead in Rizal Stadium and left all the home fans standing and screaming
after such a long search.
After
having the goal, kaya FC dropped back and that invited the Balestier to come
out to attack and in the 60th minutes, they were almost reward but
they saw their goal ruled
out for offside. The away side kept pressing and had another attempt but
the shot was blocked for a corner. As pressure kept mounting on Kaya this
period the Kaya No. 27 got booked as he stopped the away side from breaking
into the box.
Kaya suddenly realized the mistake they were going to make
for staying deep and decided to come out again and were almost rewarded with Anton
Ugarte diving header in the box but the goalkeeper was equal to the task in the
72 minutes of play.
Kaya No.
19 came close again but his last kick of the night went wide as he made way for
the no. 14 in the 76 minutes.The
new man in the pitch tried to make some impact but his shot followed the
footstep of the man that went out before him in the 84th minutes.
As the
game was coming to and end, Oj poteria was sent on a 1v1 with the goalkeeper
but he fail to take the chance as the goalkeeper closed him down.
When it
was almost over Balestier Khalsa pushed for and equalizer but the game ended
1:0 in favor of Kaya FC as they secured their second home win in the AFC Cup.
Kaya FC (Philippines)1: 0 New Radiant SC (Maldives)
AFC Cup 2016
Kaya FC dominated New Radiant SC across 90 minutes
at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila in the AFC cup group stage first leg but only managed to score once, with Oj
Porteria breaking the deadlock by converting the cross that came in from the
right flank in the stoppage time.
The first half started with the home side
dominating possession while New Radiant struggled with lack of confidence
on the ball as the coach was showing his frustration from the technical line.
Most of the play was in New Radiant half but, like the visitors, Kaya FC were
unable to create any clear-cut chances.
Kaya FC showed signs of purpose as they
returned from half-time brightly and the
noise inside the Rizal stadium rose. Several minutes later, it was the visitors
that came close to scoring the first goal of the night as their cross went
across Kaya 3 yard box without a touch. The missed chance from New Radiant sparked Kaya as they went searching for goals. Their task would have
been far easier had they not thrown away 2 clear goal scoring chances in the 6
yard box as the free header was nodded over and the instant shot was
fired over the bar too.
As we know that football is not over until it is actually over, New Radiant were already settling for a draw as the clock was ticking but were surprised to see the ball from Oj Porteria fly into their net in style in the stoppage time as the whole stadium rose to their feet in celebration while they went on the ground in disappointment.
Our Positives
-The ability for Kaya to keep camp and maintain the ball
possession until the goal finally came was a plus
-Alfred Osei’s work rate was domonant in the midfield in stopping New
Radiant's build up and securing the back 4 even though most of his passes were not accurate.
The introduction of the No. 8 jersey player brought life into
the team with his speed of play.
Our Negatives
-Kaya missed the physicality, speed and scoring ability of Robert
Lopez Mendy as the attackers were struggling to keep up with the New Radiant 2
central defenders who were not good enough or were struggling.
-The speed of play around the box was slow and that helped the
away side to settle and intercept passes.
It
was a good and deserving win for Kaya FC but it was not a performance that
could instill fear in the other fixtures left in the group.
A towering forward, Lennon
Richardson is a tall football player from Ormoc City, Leyte known to posses a
remarkable technical ability to score goals and create chances. He is the
master in 1v1 situations. Because Lennon is already 5.7 ft at 15, sometimes he
is shy to play with his age category and instead prefer playing with U17 team.
He is a natural right-footed
player who likes to play as a left sided forward and the position allow him to
drift inside and shoot with his stronger foot or create chances for his teammate!
He is an accurate free kick and penalty taker. Although Lennon is a tall
player, he sees himself as future Neymar Jr. as he tries everyday to perfect
his dribbling, shooting, headers, speed and controls.
Lennon first from right (No. 20)
Coach Lerche Njang described
Lennon as “Great player, one of the rare talents in the country” during his
time coaching Ormoc Soccer Association U14 team.
Lennon has represented Leyte Football Association in various
competitions apart from his parent club OSA FC. He represented Leyte All Stars
in the recent Alaska cup held in Manila. He is always among the first players
within his age groups to be invited to camps within Leyte region.
Lennon is a great talent who
could show the world that Philippines can be among the top football nations in
Asia with adequate youth development projects and scouting in the grass
root.
There is no doubt that Philippines football future is bright with the coming of a prolific goal scorer.
